About

About this tool

Redirect Checker follows a URL hop by hop, recording each status code, destination and response time until it reaches the final page. It then explains what it found: whether HTTP upgrades to HTTPS, whether www and non-www are normalised, whether temporary 302 or 307 redirects are used where permanent ones belong, and whether the chain loops or ends on an error.

Chains build up over time: an old http:// link redirects to https://, then to www, then to a new URL after a redesign. Each hop adds a round-trip for visitors, and search engines may stop following long chains. The fix is almost always to point the first URL straight at the final destination.

Check all four versions of your domain (http, https, with and without www) with one click: they should all land on the same address in a single hop. It's one of the quickest technical SEO wins after a migration or HTTPS switch.
