Convert

75–85% keeps photos crisp at a fraction of the size.

Images never leave your device — conversion happens in your browser.

Size comparison

Add an image to compare formats

You'll see the original, WebP sizes side by side.

Converted files keep the original dimensions. A “+%” means the new format is bigger for that image — keep the original in that case (it happens with tiny or already heavily optimised files).

HTML <picture> snippet

Browsers pick the first format they support and fall back to your original.

index.html

  <source srcset="hero.webp" type="image/webp" />
  <img src="hero.jpg" alt="Describe the image" width="1200" height="800" loading="lazy" decoding="async" />
</picture>

About

About this tool

WebP images are typically much smaller than equivalent JPGs and PNGs at similar visual quality, and every modern browser supports them. Serving them is one of the simplest fixes for the “serve images in next-gen formats” warning in Google PageSpeed Insights.

Drop in your images and this converter creates WebP versions at the quality you choose, showing the original and new file size side by side. If your browser can encode AVIF — an even newer format — it offers that too; most browsers can display AVIF but can't create it from a web page, so the option only appears when it actually works.

The tool also writes the HTML <picture> element for you: browsers pick the first format they support and fall back to your original file, with width, height and lazy-loading attributes included to avoid layout shift. Conversion happens in your browser, so your images stay private.
