About this tool
A strong password is long and truly random. This generator uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling, so every character is equally likely and no pattern creeps in. Passwords are created on your device and never sent anywhere.
Choose Random for maximum strength in the fewest characters: pick a length from 8 to 64, the character sets you need, and optionally exclude look-alike characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0 that are easy to mistype. Choose Memorable to get a passphrase of random everyday words, which is easier to type on a phone or read out over a call.
The strength meter shows entropy in bits, which measures how many guesses an attacker would need. As a rule of thumb, 60+ bits is strong for most accounts and 80+ bits is very strong. Store your passwords in a password manager and never reuse one across sites.
