The trending GitHub repos of October 2026 are mostly add-ons for AI coding agents: skills, plugins, memory and guardrails. Cloudflare's security-audit-skill gained the most stars this week, obra/superpowers passed 300,000 stars, and tools for design, SEO, video and security are rising fast. Below are the best picks for each niche, with licences and safety checks.

Star counts come from the GitHub API, and "stars this month" from GitHub Trending, both checked on 29 October 2026. These numbers change daily, so treat them as a snapshot.

I check GitHub Trending every week because it is the earliest signal of which tools our developers and clients will be asking about next. This month I did more than read it. We added two of the repos below to our own project (claude-seo and claude-blog) and read their install scripts and hooks before enabling them. That review step is the part most "best repos" lists skip, so I have included it at the end.

What is trending on GitHub this month?

One theme dominates: tools that make AI coding agents better at specific jobs. That fits GitHub's own data. Its Octoverse 2026 report found that agents started more than 40% of pull requests in September 2026, up from 17% in March. When agents do the typing, developers star whatever gives those agents better taste, memory and safety.

These were the biggest movers on GitHub Trending this month:

Repository What it does Total stars Gained this month Licence
stablyai/orca Runs a fleet of coding agents side by side 109,725 +29,034 MIT
cloudflare/security-audit-skill Multi-phase security audits by a coding agent 52,328 +28,617 MIT
affaan-m/ECC Agent harness: skills, memory, security, research 292,261 +24,428 MIT
heygen-com/hyperframes Write HTML, render video, built for agents 75,179 +21,015 Apache-2.0
pbakaus/impeccable Design vocabulary and critique for agents 94,321 +19,821 Apache-2.0
paperclipai/paperclip Manage AI agents at work 108,479 +16,577 MIT
rohitg00/ai-engineering-from-scratch Free AI engineering course 75,495 +15,439 MIT

A word of caution before the lists. Star totals in the hundreds of thousands for repos that are only months old deserve some scepticism. Stars can be bought or farmed. I use them to find candidates, not to judge quality.

Best GitHub repos for AI coding agents

If you use Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or a similar agent, these repos are the most useful this month:

  • obra/superpowers (307,985 stars, MIT): an agentic skills framework and development method for brainstorming, planning and subagent-driven work. Start here if you want a structured workflow.
  • affaan-m/ECC (292,261 stars, MIT): a performance system for agent harnesses, covering skills, instincts, memory, security and research-first development.
  • anthropics/claude-plugins-official (45,214 stars, Apache-2.0): Anthropic's managed directory of Claude Code plugins. It is the safest place to look for plugins because the list is curated.
  • vercel-labs/skills (37,099 stars, MIT): an open tool for installing agent skills with npx skills.
  • thedotmack/claude-mem (104,252 stars, Apache-2.0): persistent memory across agent sessions, so your agent remembers what it did yesterday.
  • mksglu/context-mode (32,796 stars, custom licence): sandboxes tool output to save context window. The project claims a 98% reduction. Read its licence before using it commercially.
  • stablyai/orca (109,725 stars, MIT) and paperclipai/paperclip (108,479 stars, MIT): for running and managing several agents at once.

Why skills everywhere? On 22 October Anthropic donated its Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation, and more than 70 agent platforms have adopted it. A skill written once now works across tools, so skill repos are worth more than they were a year ago.

Best GitHub repos for web design and frontend

The fastest-growing design repos all fight the same problem: AI-generated websites that look generic. Each one teaches an agent taste.

  • pbakaus/impeccable (94,321 stars, Apache-2.0): a design vocabulary for coding agents, with commands to polish, critique and audit an interface.
  • Leonxlnx/taste-skill (105,106 stars, MIT): gives agents art direction, reference images and a browser check instead of generic layouts.
  • Nutlope/hallmark (41,554 stars, MIT): an "anti-AI-slop" design skill for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
  • supabase/supabase (114,286 stars, Apache-2.0): the Postgres development platform. It is not new, but it gained 3,719 stars this month, and it runs this website's database and admin.

My honest view: these skills make an agent's first draft noticeably better, but they do not replace a designer's judgement about your brand and your customers. We use them for early drafts and keep design decisions with people. If you want to see what a custom design looks like before paying anything, our free 48-hour website mockup is the quickest test. Best GitHub repos for SEO and marketing

  • AgriciDaniel/claude-seo (23,734 stars, MIT): an SEO skill for Claude Code with 26 sub-skills and 19 sub-agents covering technical SEO, E-E-A-T, schema and GEO. It gained 3,516 stars this week. We added version 2.4.1 to our own project this month. It needs Python 3.10 or later, and it adds a hook that checks JSON-LD whenever a file is edited. The hook only reads the file and makes no network calls.
  • gitroomhq/postiz-app (40,066 stars, AGPL-3.0): an open-source, agent-friendly social media scheduler you can host yourself.
  • anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins (33,762 stars, Apache-2.0): open-source plugins for knowledge workers using Claude Cowork.

Tools like claude-seo are good at finding problems, but they cannot decide which problems are worth fixing for your business. Pair them with simple checks you can run in a browser, like our free SEO checker and schema generator. If you would rather hand it over, our SEO, AEO and GEO service starts at ₹80,000 ($1,400) a month.

Best GitHub repos for video, voice and content creators

  • heygen-com/hyperframes (75,179 stars, Apache-2.0): write HTML and render it as video. It is built for agents, so you can describe a video and let an agent assemble it.
  • remotion-dev/remotion (68,789 stars): make videos programmatically with React. Remotion uses its own licence, so check its terms before commercial or client work.
  • calesthio/OpenMontage (72,886 stars, AGPL-3.0): an open-source agentic video production system with 12 production pipelines.
  • debpalash/VoiceStudio (93,747 stars, AGPL-3.0): a fully local alternative to ElevenLabs for voice cloning, voice design and dubbing. It gained 51,430 stars this month, the most of any repo on the monthly list. Only clone voices you have written permission to use.

Best GitHub repos for security

Security repos are trending for a reason. Agents can now find and exploit vulnerabilities, so teams need automated defence too.

  • cloudflare/security-audit-skill (52,328 stars, MIT): a coding-agent skill for multi-phase security audits with independently verified, machine-readable findings. It was the top gainer this week, with 16,002 new stars.
  • NVIDIA/SkillSpector (23,253 stars, Apache-2.0): scans agent skills for vulnerabilities, malicious patterns and prompt injection. Run it on any skill before you install it.
  • anthropics/sandbox-runtime (6,843 stars, Apache-2.0): enforces filesystem and network limits on any process, which is useful for running agents safely.
  • NationalSecurityAgency/ghidra (95,708 stars): the NSA's open-source reverse engineering framework, back on the trending list with 15,700 new stars this month.

Best GitHub repos for learning AI, finance and product design

  • rohitg00/ai-engineering-from-scratch (75,495 stars, MIT): a free course on building and shipping AI systems.
  • HKUDS/DeepTutor (49,149 stars, Apache-2.0): a personalised tutoring system built with AI agents.
  • TauricResearch/TradingAgents (118,143 stars, Apache-2.0): a multi-agent LLM framework for financial trading research. It is a research project, not financial advice. Never connect it to real money without professional review.
  • earthtojake/text-to-cad (24,041 stars, MIT): design physical products with AI. The project is tagged for STEP and STL, the standard CAD and 3D-printing formats.

How do you check a trending GitHub repo is safe to use?

Trending is not the same as safe. Agent skills and plugins are especially risky because they are instructions your agent will follow, and they can carry hidden prompt injection. This is the checklist we follow before installing anything:

  • Licence. MIT and Apache-2.0 are fine for commercial work. AGPL-3.0 means you must share your source code if you offer the tool to users over a network. Read custom licences in full.
  • Activity. Check the date of the last commit and the open issues. Every repo we checked through the GitHub API for this post had a commit within the past seven weeks.
  • Install scripts and hooks. Read anything that runs automatically. We did this for claude-seo and found its only hook was a read-only schema check.
  • Scan skills. Run agent skills through a scanner such as SkillSpector before installing them.
  • Sandbox first. Try new agent tools in a sandbox, without production keys, customer data or .env secrets.
  • Star velocity. Be wary of repos that gain tens of thousands of stars in days with few contributors or forks.

There are also two kinds of trending repo I would not recommend, however many stars they have. The first offers "free" access to paid AI models through pooled keys or proxies, which usually breaks the providers' terms and can get your accounts banned. The second is video downloaders and streaming-site kits that ignore copyright. Neither is worth the risk for a business.

The bottom line

October's trending GitHub repos show where software work is heading: agents do the typing, and open-source skills give them taste, memory and security. Pick one or two repos for your niche, run them through the safety checklist, and measure whether they save real time before adding more. FAQ

What are the trending GitHub repos right now?

As of 29 October 2026, most of the fastest-growing repos are AI agent add-ons, such as stablyai/orca, cloudflare/security-audit-skill, affaan-m/ECC and pbakaus/impeccable. Outside agents, VoiceStudio (local voice cloning) and HyperFrames (HTML-to-video) gained the most. GitHub's Trending page updates daily, weekly and monthly.

How do I find trending GitHub repos for AI?

Open github.com/trending and switch the date range between today, this week and this month. You can also filter by language, such as Python or TypeScript. For a niche, search GitHub topics like "agent-skills" or "ai-agents" and sort by recently updated, then check each repo's licence and last commit.

Are trending GitHub repos safe to use?

Not automatically. Stars measure popularity, not safety. Check the licence, recent activity and any install scripts. Scan agent skills for prompt injection, and test new tools in a sandbox without production secrets.

What is the best GitHub repository for AI agents?

For most teams, obra/superpowers is the best starting point. It is MIT-licensed and gives an agent a complete working method. Add anthropics/claude-plugins-official for curated plugins and thedotmack/claude-mem for memory across sessions.

Can I use these open-source tools in client projects?

Usually, yes, if you follow the licence. MIT and Apache-2.0 tools can be used commercially with attribution. AGPL-3.0 tools such as Postiz, OpenMontage and VoiceStudio require you to share your source code if you offer them to others over a network. Remotion and context-mode use custom licences, so read them first.

What is an agent skill?

An agent skill is a packaged set of instructions, and sometimes scripts, that teaches an AI agent how to do a specific job, such as a security audit or an SEO check. Since October 2026, Agent Skills is an open standard under the Agentic AI Foundation, and more than 70 agent platforms support it.
